Puppy getting vaccinated

Bringing home a new puppy is an exciting time, but it also comes with important responsibilities. One of the most crucial aspects of puppy care is ensuring they receive proper vaccinations at the right time. This comprehensive guide will help you understand the vaccination schedule recommended for puppies in India.

Why Vaccinations Matter

Vaccinations protect your puppy from potentially deadly diseases like parvovirus, distemper, and rabies. Puppies are particularly vulnerable because their immune systems are still developing. The antibodies they receive from their mother's milk only provide temporary protection, making timely vaccinations essential.

Complete Vaccination Schedule

6-8 Weeks Old

  • DHPPi (First Dose): Protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza

10-12 Weeks Old

  • DHPPi (Second Dose): Booster shot for continued protection
  • Leptospirosis: Prevents bacterial infection affecting liver and kidneys

14-16 Weeks Old

  • DHPPi (Third Dose): Final puppy booster
  • Anti-Rabies: Legally required in India, protects against rabies virus

💉 Important Note

Annual boosters are required to maintain immunity. Mark your calendar for yearly vaccination appointments!

Post-Vaccination Care

After vaccination, your puppy may experience mild side effects:

  • Slight fever or lethargy for 24-48 hours
  • Mild swelling at injection site
  • Reduced appetite
  • Mild discomfort

These are normal reactions and should resolve within a couple of days. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, contact Pawfex immediately.
